MBLAQ was still powerful and charismatic without Lee Joon and Thunder.
On June 9, MBLAQ, the now three-member group, held a comeback showcase for their eighth mini album “Mirror” at Ilji Art Hall in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu in Seoul. It was the group’s comeback after a 14-month hiatus. The reorganized group announced another restart as a trio, consisting of Seung-ho, G.O and Mir. Former members Lee Joon and Thunder left the group after their contracts with J. Tune Camp expired last December.
The title, “Mirror”, is a beautiful and emotional R&B song with a medium tempo. It talks about the feeling of pain after getting betrayed and abandoned by someone you loved and trusted. While G.O and Seung-ho lead the track with their smooth, delicate vocals, Mir creates synergy by stamping his charismatic rap verse on the song.
MBLAQ’s comeback album consists of eight high-quality tracks that create a musical-like experience for the listener. The songs tell common subjects you face with in life. At the showcase, the trio performed to the ballad “Tree” other than the title, which featured G.O’s beautiful vocals.
The three members confessed their feelings before the show.
“It was mentally tough to reorganize not only the group but also the six years we had spent in the past. It is great to see our fans again. They always give us strength, and I feel encouraged now. I am looking forward to our promotions ahead,” said Seung-ho.
G.O continued, “It was an emotionally draining time. I tried to run away from my life and reality by living in a virtual world(online games). I realized that if you don’t work or do something that’s significant and helpful to you, you end up having bad thoughts about everything in life and start sinking deeply. It took me long time to figure it out. However, I am back now. I have learned a lot from my past experiences as I started looking back at my life.”
He went on, “It’s funny I had no idea back then; I simply had no clue how much our fans meant to us. I would like to thank every single fan who has showed constant support to the group.”
Mir also revealed his hardships, “It was hard, definitely. I went back to my hometown and spent some time as a farmer. That helped me a lot. I felt comfortable and relaxed while I was busy working. It’s always good to be close to nature. Then I slowly and eventually, came to a decision that it’s time for me to make a fresh start and do what I can do best.”
Meanwhile, G.O showed up at the showcase without his trademark beard and mustache.
“I used to grow and have a quite heavy beard and mustache before. People told me I looked like an actor. But it was hard to wear makeup, and my fans also suggested that I shave it for a change. How do I look?” G.O asked.
The members were asked whether they considered having new members in the group. “Well, no. In fact, no one will be able to replace those two. Moreover, we also believe that if we try our best, we can make up the group ourselves,” said the leader of the group.
G.O continued, “It would be a lie if I said I had not thought about having new members in the group; but I thought it would be a good try as a trio, because there are so many boy groups with so many members these days.”
MBLAQ even had to suffer from an idle rumor of disbandment. Now they are back, stronger and more mature. At the showcase, they were powerful and charismatic, as usual.
MBLAQ is scheduled to hold comeback stages on this week’s music shows, as well as launch other promotions for the new album.
